Coco Mats

Description: Coco Mats are best remembered as an accessory that came in many foreign cars that were imported into the US in the 50's and 60's. The original coco mats allowed dirt and dust to filter through onto your carpeting but, I believe the logic was, they protected that carpeting from any direct wear of your "shuffling" feet!

The modern version of the coco mats have the same look and use the same fibers as used in the 50's and 60's, made from the husks of coconuts, but now with a waterproof, non-skid rubber backing and vinyl binding. This allows dirt and dust to settle down into the fiber away from your feet but is stopped before filtering through to your carpeting by the rubber backing. Cleaning is done by lifting the mat out of the car and shaking the dirt out of the mat. Hosing down the mats while they are out of the car may also be done for a more thorough cleaning without any damage to the coco fibers.
